Getting Started

Your Licence and Learning To Drive

Before you start to drive you need to hold a valid provisional driving licence for Great Britain or Northern Ireland, and you must make sure that any vehicle you drive is roadworthy and properly taxed and insured.

Learning to drive correctly is important, and the best way to do that is by using an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with experience, knowledge and training. Safe driving protects you and other road users.

If you do not already have your provisional driving licence, you can apply for this up to three months before your 17th birthday, however, it will not be valid until you reach your 17th birthday.

In order to sit your practical driving test you must first complete your theory test before booking your practical test. We will advise you as to when we feel you are ready to apply for both your theory and practical driving tests.

The Practical Driving Test

Together we will agree when you are ready to sit your practical driving test.

The practical driving test is designed for you to show your practical skills and understanding of the Highway Code and theory of driving safely.

Providing you show the required standard, you’ll pass your driving test.
